or (Please note that there is no regular Hunter Homeless Connect Day or NHHIN meeting on this day) NHHIN Forum 2009 Taking the Road Home Together The forum this year was held at Wests Club at Mayfield and was well attended. It was officially opened by the Hon. Jodi McKay MP, Member for Newcastle, Minister for tourism, Minister for the Hunter, Minister for Science & Medical Research and Minister assisting the Minister for health (Cancer). Updates to the sector were provided on: This Way Home project, a partnership between Housing NSW, Newcastle City Council and a number of service providers. This project originated in a proposal developed by a NHHIN working group in late 2007. Catalyst Clemente and many of the students and learning partners attended the forum with the co-ordinator. Homeless Connect Day was introduced to the sector to gauge the level of support to pursue this ambitious project for Newcastle. The further update is that the day did happen held in National Social Inclusion Week on Thursday 26 November 2009 and was a huge success. StreetSmart – Results for 2008 - $260,000 and an overview of the two successful projects in the Hunter. Street care gave a presentation and then forum participants workshopped how we might get this great project up and running here in Newcastle and the Hunter. The latest update on this is that a NHHIN working group is liaising with Chris Hartley from PIAC on funding sources for Street Care in Newcastle. The forum concluded with a performance by the ‘Under Construction ‘ choir. There were 53 people registered to attend and there ended up being 56 attendees. Overall it was a great day and it was great to see everyone from the various agencies networking and working together.
